Neurotoxins, more popular commercially as Botox, Dysport and Xeomin, are a purified preparation of botulinum toxin used to address facial wrinkles and for facial recontouring. Botulinum toxin acts by chemical denervation thus relaxing the muscle and getting rid of wrinkles that develop with the movement of muscles. Neurotoxins can also be used to change the contour of the face. This can be achieved through a combination of techniques, including chemical brow lift, slimming of the lower face ( masseter neurotoxin injections), treatment of gummy smiles, lip flip, and chemical nose and neck lift.

Neurotoxin injections are also used for functional purposes for treatment of persistent eyelid twitching (blepharospasm), migraines and excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis). They have also been used to treat cases of squint (crossed eyes) in children and adults.
Neurotoxin treatments are an outpatient procedure that take anywhere between 10-20 minutes to perform. The area to be injected is numbed using a numbing cream 20-30 minutes prior to the procedure and then the injections are performed using an ultra-fine needle. There is no downtime and no restriction of activity advised. The effect of the toxin starts in 5-10 days and lasts for 3-6 months depending on the area injected. Most patients prefer to repeat treatments in the upper face every 3 to 4 months. The duration may be longer for other parts of the face.

Neurotoxin injections are safe, predictable and well-researched tools to rejuvenate your face and are best performed in the hands of a facial expert.
