Eyelid Tumors

Eyelid tumors include masses on or around the eyelid. These are mostly benign in nature and slow-growing and mainly present with a cosmetic concern which can prompt their removal. Some of these can be malignant or cancerous in nature and require prompt removal.

The assessment of these tumors involves a thorough clinical examination along with additional tests for imaging as and when needed. The nature of the tumor is usually confirmed by performing a biopsy, where tissue from the tumor is sent for further pathological analysis to determine whether it is benign or cancerous.

Surgery for benign eyelid tumors involves complete removal of the mass followed by eyelid reconstruction which is curative in most cases. The treatment of cancerous eyelid tumors can involve surgery to remove the mass, which may be combined with chemotherapy or radiotherapy, depending on the type and stage of the cancer.

An oculoplastic surgeon is highly specialized to treat these rare and extremely sensitive conditions and should be trusted to give the best outcomes in terms of cure and cosmesis.
